Saturday 30 March: Introduction to slab building (3 hour workshop)
During this workshop you will learn the fundamentals of slab building, the process which I predominately use in my work. Slab building is an incredibly rewarding and satisfying, as well as versatile, technique. What you make will be up to you - options include, but are not limited to vases, planters, mugs, plates and platters. I will teach you slab building techniques and guide you through each of the steps as you create your perfect pieces.
With only four students in the workshop, you will have the space, time and freedom to relax into your morning and make to your heart's content.
I will fire and glaze your piece, which will be ready for collection (or shipping – please see FAQ below) approximately four weeks after the workshop.
I will fire and glaze up to four pieces per person, which will be shipped to you approximately four weeks after the workshop.
- JJ Studio: 5 Tyagarah Street, corner Riley Lane, Mullumbimby
- Maximum 4
I hold workshops in my studio at 5 Tyagarah Street, corner Riley Lane, Mullumbimby.
If you aren’t familiar with it, Mullumbimby is a bustling country town, just ten minutes from Brunswick Heads and twenty minutes from Byron Bay. There are some great breakfast, lunch and dinner options in the area. Let me know if you’re after a suggestion -I’d love to make some.
Please bring an apron or an old shirt to wear that you don't mind getting dirty!
Workshops run for three hours. This allows us to take the time to work slowlyand steadily, as is best with clay. I want my workshops to be a place of gentle creativity and slow making, allowing you to take a break from the everyday and drop into you.
A range of teas and sweet treats will be on offer, for when you need to take a breather from your making. Let me know of any dietary requirements when you book your spot.
My preference is to hold small classes, where everyone gets theassistance and space that they need. As such, my classes have a maximum of four people(plus myself). Lily and Eddie will probably join us at times for pats.
My workshops are suitable both for those with and without experience in working with clay.
I teach predominately hand building, and specifically slab building techniques. This method is central to my practice and is incredibly rewarding and satisfying process.
Your creations will be ready to be collected (and treasured) from my studio approximately four weeks after the workshop. Postage
can absolutely be arranged should you live elsewhere. I’ll cover the package costs and you’ll cover the postage.
While you’re in my studio, you might spy something on my shelves which you’d like to take home with you. I would love that and will give you 10% discount on any purchases you make in the workshop day.
If you are not able to attend a workshop, I will refund your ticket in full up to two weeks prior to the workshop. If you cancel within 13 days, I will only be able to refund your ticket if it is able to be resold. Please email me at hello@jennjohnstonceramics.comif you are unable to use your ticket and I will do my very best to fill your spot. If you have someone else to take your place, please email me at hello@jennjohnstonceramics.comto inform me of the change.
Should I need to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be offered a full refund, the opportunityto reschedule to a workshop at a later date, or to use your credit in my online store (with a bonus 10% discount code).
