Sculptural work

Clay, for me, is the most honest of materials. It holds the mark of the maker and carries the memory of the earth it came from.

Listed together here are pieces from two exhibitions: Vessel, a collaborative show with painters Rhiannon Power and Mathew Godwin at the Garage Gallery, Mullumbimby (April 2026), and Long Story Short, a solo show at the Station Street Co-op, Bangalow (August 2026).

The pieces for Vessel were made from two clay bodies - one rich and textured, the other refined and smooth. Most pieces are unglazed, allowing the clay to speak for itself. Texture, tone and form are the only decoration. Several of the open forms have been planted with indigenous species by local plant specialist Lani Jensen, referencing the Japanese tradition of Kusamono. 

The pieces from Long Story Short carry text drawn from literature that has stayed with me - lines about love and loss, friendship, nourishment, the passage of time, and the wonder of the natural world. Some quotations speak boldly to the reader; others are more subtle, inviting closer consideration. In each piece, form and language are inseparable, with the character of the work shaped by the words it carries.

Making is where I find calm, and reading is where I find meaning - my hope is that these pieces carry something of both, and offer an invitation to pause, and simply be.
