When I contacted Debra Dank to ask her permission to use a line from We Come With This Place, I told her that I had first read her book when it was published, and have carried many of her stories with me since. I had just re-read it, and cried and laughed and learnt again. It is both humble and inspiring, epic and domestic, hopeful and devastating. The line I chose to inscribe on this piece - "I think that when I dance, I maybe help the old people come back to our country" - encapsulates much of this for me.

I sat with this line for a long time before I could envisage the form the piece would take, although I always knew it would be a deep rusty red, reflecting the beautiful ochre palette of the lands of the Gudanji and Wakaja people. The organic shape is both grounded and speaks to the movement of dancing.

Many thanks to Debra Dank for giving me permission to use her words.
